T O D A Y

i found this image of a pinboard i made sometime ago
as an insparation for a series of linocuts
about gardening, memories and flowers
the images are now in a box
for when i have more time....

today for the first time i had the idea
i'm going to make it
i will get this work (for my work!) done
before the holiday begins
and that feels so nice!
after that there will be time ;^))

outside a blackbird sings
despite the tough rain showers
i look at that image
and think of these words:

'If I cannot do great things,
I can do small things
in a great way.'
                                          Martin Luther King Jr.

garden party & N E W T H E M E !!

the snails have a GARDEN PARTY in our garden
which was the theme
of the last drawing challenge/art challenge
hosted by sweet TAMMIE

i really would like to join the art challenge again
that's why i force myself to be the host  ;^))

the coming weeks
will be even more filled with work
because i need to finish much
before the summer holidays
and than there are the headaches
(probably related to work ;^))
so it's sometimes difficult to focus

in between i work in the garden
enjoying the incredible blue
of the lupins and delphiniums

so, hence the theme for the 196th challenge of JUNE 11-12:

how it works:
if you want to join, leave a comment saying you are in
the following weekend the 'drawings' are shown on the blogs of the participants
and the host links to them all

S K Y

i had plans, as always
but to little time, as always....

after days of hard work with my father
- we have rebuilt our attic -
it was time to paint those new walls
- instead of making a drawing for this art challenge-
in a soft grey like the sky outside
and
besides that
i painted the walls of the room of youngest
in a beautiful skyblue

at the end of the day
the sun broke through
the sky!!

L A T E L Y

it's exactly two months ago that i posted something
.... sorry! and.... i wonder
is there someone visting me here nowadays?

i have been busy, no, i still am very busy with the job
and i will be even more busy the coming months
next to teaching i have a new additional task:
thinking about and writing the curriculum for next year

that's why it was so quiet
i miss being here, and i realize that i have not enjoyed it enough
the years that i was working from home and had the time, so much time

you can follow me on facebook and instagram
but i am not sure if that's what i want
i loved this blog and the blogworld, so....

ok
back to work!
with this sentence in mind
(do not know from whom or where....)
x
Patrice A

'Meet yourself
where you are right now
with kindness
openess
and patience.'

drawing challenge 189: C O C O O N

It's time for more silence.

COCOON
drawing challenge 189

annually
at the end of the winter
i long for a soft white place
to hibernate
a cocoon
in which i can curl
a safe embrace
waiting for spring
before i get out
converted and
with wings
in the color of the sky

i used a form that i crocheted years ago
and turned it into a cocoon on a branch
the bookprinting/quote and linocut
are works that i made earlier

drawing challenge: NEW THEME!

ok, i do not want to keep whining about how busy i am
about the 3 days teaching and read-in, prepare and more
(and don't get me wrong, my job is FUN!!)
i do not want to complain about the household
and the feeling of having no time
no time to make something, to create

how do other people do that? i regularly ask myself

i would like to hibernate
and wake up when spring has arrived
....

involucre
casing
for protection
before i will pupate

hence the theme for dc 189 of Februari 20 - 21: COCOON

how it works:
if you want to join, leave a comment saying you are in
the following weekend the 'drawings' are shown on the blogs of the participants
and the host links to them all

7.2.16

drawing challenge 187: SIXES AND SEVENS

the theme this week is chosen by NADINE-tinyWOOLF
please visit her blog for the link to the other participants

sixes and sevens
in the meaning 'state of confusion or disarray'
is written all over me lately
i looked up some old work
a self-portrait made of several polaroid pictures

sorry
for my absence
and the fact that i hardly drop by
....

AND:
next weekend i will be the host of the 188th drawing challenge
i will post the theme on wednesday the 10th
well... i hope to do that  ;^))
SORRY!
I WILL HOST the 189th drawing challenge
more on that next tuesday

sixes and sevens

....

2.2.16

monthly quote: F E B R U A R Y

'There's a crack in everything,
that's how the light gets in.'

                                           Leonard Cohen

this sentence is spinning in my mind
it's what i try to do
it's how i want to be
to see the crack
feel the light

deze zin is spint in mijn hoofd
het is wat ik probeer te doen
het is hoe ik wil zijn
de scheur zien
het licht voelen

24.1.16

drawing challenge 185: R E E F

the theme this week is chosen by Katrin
please visit her blog for the link to the other participants

reef
i immediately thought of Daan Roosegaarde
and his poetic project 'waterlicht'
a dream landscape about the power and poetry of water
a large part of the Netherlands lies below sealevel
in these images people seem reef  ;^))

sorry, nothing self-made this week
i worked 6 days
just one more busy week
before i get into calmer waters

rif

16.1.16

drawing challenge 184: RHYTHM

the theme of this week is chosen by Veronica
please visit her blog for the link to the other participants

rhythm
i haven't found mine yet
after re-starting teaching in August
i am still looking....
but
i can feel the rhythm of my heartbeat
which sometimes skips when i lie awake
pondering about the day to come
i see the rhythm of the seasons
in the bulbs outside and in
the rhythm of the days and nights
white and black
life and death
....
circles

that beautiful blue moon is hanging on my wall
and the circles come from the book by Inez van Oord

my life a circle
with it's own rhythm
