the snails have a GARDEN PARTY in our garden
which was the theme 
of the last drawing challenge/art challenge
hosted by sweet TAMMIE

i really would like to join the art challenge again
that's why i force myself to be the host  ;^))

the coming weeks 
will be even more filled with work
because i need to finish much 
before the summer holidays
and than there are the headaches 
(probably related to work ;^))
so it's sometimes difficult to focus

in between i work in the garden
enjoying the incredible blue 
of the lupins and delphiniums

so, hence the theme for the 196th challenge of JUNE 11-12:

i made a portrait of a chard leaf
using watercolor and colored pencil

i have 'tiny' time for other things than my new job
sorry!

al die kleine zaadjes
die de mooiste groenten worden
in zo'n korte tijd ....

ik maakte een portret van een snijbiet blad
met aquarel en kleurpotlood

ik heb weinig tijd voor andere dingen dan mijn nieuwe baan
sorry! 
maar ik zal jullie allen zo snel mogelijk bezoeken

last week, while i enjoyed the so welcome sunshine
i heard the buzzing beez in the helleborus
so when the theme was announced i thought it would be easy  ;^))
but then all these other (nice!) things came in between
which is why i'm late
and with an unfinished drawing....
but 
with some bees!
i've made them years ago when the children were small 
and we had a 'seasons branch' hung for the window
they are made of strobiles, yellow embroidery thread and some thin paper for the wings

vorige week, terwijl ik genoot van de zo welkome zon
hoorde ik de bijen zoemen in de helleborus
dus toen het thema werd aangekondigd dacht ik dat het gemakkelijk zou zijn; ^))
maar toen kwamen er allerlei andere (leuke!) dingen tussendoor
dat is waarom ik laat ben
en met een onvoltooide tekening ....
maar
met een aantal bijen!
ik heb ze jaren geleden gemaakt toen de kinderen klein waren
en we een 'seizoenen-tak' hadden opgehangen voor het raam
ze zijn gemaakt van elzenproppen, geel borduurgaren en wat dun papier voor de vleugels

sprout cabbage

after the last rain and storm the sprout cabbage lies flat in our kitchen garden
and because not everyone in our family loves sprouts 
i make a comforting and warming soup flavored with apple and soft goat cheese
with Ariane and her family in mind

for 4 persons:
500 gr. sprout cabbage, cleaned and cut in half
1 sour/fresh apple, cut into small pieces
2 teaspoons thyme, oliveoil, pinch of cinnamon, butter, 7 dl broth
75 ml whipping cream, freshly ground pepper and 60 gr. soft goat cheese

. toss the sprouts, half of the apple pieces, the thyme, olive oil and the cinnamon
in a baking dish
. roasting in an oven at 200 degrees C in 10 to 15 minutes until done, toss occasionally
. bake the other half of the apple pieces in butter until they are golden-colored
. heat the broth, add the sprouts from the oven and let simmer
. puree in a blender and stir the whipping cream
. season with freshly ground pepper
. ladle the soup into the bowls, divide the golden apple pieces and goat cheese and 
garnish with a little thyme



na de laatste regen en storm ligt de spruitkool plat in onze moestuin 
en omdat niet iedereen in onze familie houdt van spruitjes 
maak ik een troostend en verwarmende soep op smaak gebracht met appel en zachte geitenkaas
met Ariane en haar family in gedachte 

voor 4 personen: 
500 gram spruitkool, schoongemaakt en gehalveerd 
1 zure/frisse appel, in kleine stukjes gesneden 
2 theelepels tijm, olijfolie, snufje kaneel, boter, 7 dl bouillon 
75 ml slagroom, versgemalen peper en 60 gram zachte geitenkaas 

. de spruiten, de helft van de stukjes appel, de tijm, olijfolie en de kaneel 
in een ovenschaal door elkaar scheppen
. rooster in een oven op 200 graden C in 10 tot 15 minuten gaar, schep af en toe om
. bak de andere helft van de stukjes appel in boter tot ze goudkleurig zijn
. verwarm de bouillon, voeg de spruiten uit de oven toe en laat sudderen 
. pureer met een staafmixer en roer de slagroom erdoor 
. breng op smaak met vers gemalen peper 
. schep de soep in de kommen, verdeel de gouden stukjes appel en geitenkaas en 
garneer met een beetje tijm

kitchen garden gone wild ;^))

wow....
that everything can grow so much in two weeks time
the pickles plants have grown at least one meter
(i harvest the first five  ;^))
and all those zucchini, pumkins, tomatoes and beans
hmmm....


wauw....
dat alles zo kan groeien in twee weken tijd
de augurkenplanten zijn minstens een meter gegroeid
(ik heb de eerste vijf geoogst  ;^))
en al die courgette, pompoenen, tomaatjes en bonen
hmmm....

after having 14 kg of plums made into pie, jam and chutney
it's now the green beans turn
green, purple, bush beans, pole beans....
and the first harvest i take to Friesland
our holiday destination
just like last year and the years before
;^))


na 14 kg pruimen te hebben verwerkt tot taart, jam en chutney
zijn nu de sperziebonen aan de beurt
groene, paarse, stambonen, stokbonen....
de eerste oogst neem ik mee naar Friesland
onze vakantiebestemming
net als vorig jaar en de jaren daarvoor

our wet kitchen garden

the preserving jars are ready for the first ripe plums
i look forward to plum chutney, plum jam and (of course) plum cake  ;^))

unfortenately no figs this year
all 30(!) figs have much too early and unripe fallen from the tree
but we do have blueberries and yellow raspberries
only few but boy are they nice and sweet

today it's raining, just like yesterday
the garden looks autumnal
come on sun!

de weckpotten staan klaar voor de eerste rijpe pruimen
ik verheug me op pruimenchutney, pruimenjam en (natuurlijk) pruimentaart  ;^))

helaas geen vijgen dit jaar
alle 30(!) vijgen zijn veel te vroeg en onrijp van de boom gevallen
maar we hebben wel blauwe bessen en gele frambozen
weinig maar man wat zijn ze lekker en zoet

vandaag regent het, net als gisteren
de tuin ziet er herfstig uit
kom op zon!

the pole beans grow
we eat freshly picked lettuce and taste the difference
and i am surprised that so much beauty can quickly grow out of such small seeds

de stokbonen groeien
we eten versgeplukte sla en proeven het verschil
en ik verbaas me erover dat uit zulke kleine zaden zo snel zoveel moois kan groeien

it seems like fall because of all the rain
and wind and hail and thunder
the garden is soaking wet, but also so green!
yesterday, a slightly better day, i sowed all kinds
outside and inside



het lijkt wel herfst door al die regen
en wind en hagel en onweer
de tuin is kletsnat, maar ook zo groen!
gisteren, een iets betere dag, heb ik allerlei gezaaid
buiten en binnen

and the fig looks beautiful
i dream about delicious meals  ;^))

de tuin is helemaal geworden zoals ik van tevoren had gehoopt

de eerste groente en kruiden zijn gezaaid
en de vijg ziet er prachtig uit
ik droom van heerlijke maaltijden  ;^))

and slowly the garden is getting back form

meanwhile i let miss Stuttgart purr of happiness

along with THUIS i designed eight postcards for
the re-opening of the store on March 22
i also would like to make new work
i still have one week....
otherwise i can exhibit the same prints as in december



afgelopen weekend

buiten in de lentezon tegelt mijn Lief
een pad van stoeptegels
en langzaamaan krijgt de tuin weer vorm

ondertussen laat ik miss Stuttgart snorren van geluk

samen met THUIS heb ik acht kaarten ontworpen voor
de heropening van de winkel op 22 maart
daarnaast zou ik graag nieuw werk maken
ik heb nog een week....
en anders kan ik dezelfde prints exposeren als in december

allotment

when we lived in Rotterdam i dreamed of an allotment....

11 years ago we moved to this house, with a garden!
when the children were small part of it was a vegetable garden
i miss that....
so i make plans: removing the grass and
exchange for large containers for vegetables and flowers
my role models in this are: Nigel Slater, Monty Don and Alys Fowler

tomorrow we will measure the garden and will i make pilav with quinces
it promised to be a beautiful day

toen we in Rotterdam woonde droomde ik van een volkstuintje....

11 jaar geleden verhuisden we naar dit huis, met een tuin!
toen de kinderen klein waren was een gedeelte daarvan een groentetuin
ik mis dat....
dus maak ik plannen: het gras eruit en
verruilen voor grote bakken voor groente en bloemen
mijn grote voorbeelden in deze zijn: Nigel Slater, Monty Don en Alys Fowler

morgen gaan we de tuin opmeten en maak ik pilav met kweeperen
het beloofd een mooie dag te worden
