Nadine and i meet the day before
we start at Villa Augustus with coffee and cake
and meet nudes at the Kunsthal in Rotterdam

the next day we meet Ingrid
at the same place as six years ago
so many years and things in between
but it doesn't feel like it

two days full of words and stories,
laughter, food, and friendship

Nadine en ik ontmoeten elkaar de dag ervoor
we starten in Villa Augustus met koffie en taart
en ontmoeten naakten in de Kunsthal in Rotterdam

de volgende dag ontmoeten we Ingrid
op dezelfde plaats als zes jaar geleden
zoveel jaren en dingen er tussenin
maar het voelt niet zo

twee dagen vol woorden en verhalen,
gelach, eten en vriendschap
bedankt! X

instagram came and made me stop blogging
but i miss blogging, the slowness and storytelling of it 
and wonder, is there anybody out there who will read this?

i found this image of a pinboard i made sometime ago 
as an insparation for a series of linocuts
about gardening, memories and flowers
the images are now in a box
for when i have more time....

today for the first time i had the idea
i'm going to make it
i will get this work (for my work!) done 
before the holiday begins
and that feels so nice!
after that there will be time ;^))

outside a blackbird sings
despite the tough rain showers
i look at that image
and think of these words:

it's exactly two months ago that i posted something
.... sorry! and.... i wonder
is there someone visting me here nowadays?

i have been busy, no, i still am very busy with the job
and i will be even more busy the coming months
next to teaching i have a new additional task: 
thinking about and writing the curriculum for next year

that's why it was so quiet
i miss being here, and i realize that i have not enjoyed it enough
the years that i was working from home and had the time, so much time

but i am not sure if that's what i want
i loved this blog and the blogworld, so....

rhythm
i haven't found mine yet
after re-starting teaching in August
i am still looking....
but
i can feel the rhythm of my heartbeat
which sometimes skips when i lie awake
pondering about the day to come
i see the rhythm of the seasons
in the bulbs outside and in
the rhythm of the days and nights
white and black
life and death
....
circles

that beautiful blue moon is hanging on my wall
and the circles come from the book by Inez van Oord

my life a circle
with it's own rhythm

the last day of the year....

the last day of the year....
looking back, reminisce, remember and rethink
the good and the lesser things....

it was a tough year
some losses....
but also some positive things, like my new job!
and thanks to the travel time of three hours on a working day
i read a lot, over 70 books; ^))

some of my favorites are:

'To kill a Mocking Bird' Harper Lee (again ;^))
'Man with a Blue Scarf, on sitting for a Portrait by Lucian Freud' Martin Gayford
rereading all books by Marianne Fredriksson and loved them again
'The history of Love' Nicole Krauss
and last but not least
the book by Merlijne Marell 'Schobbejacques en de 7 geiten' (only in dutch but so worth it!!)

en ik wilde echt meedoen en tekenen
maar ik deed het niet

het waren drukke maanden

that's the saying
but is an image still worth that much nowadays?
with its volatility and speed
all those millions of images per day on instagram only
and since a few weeks i am one of them ;^))
all the sharing and showing....
we are on a path, can we change that? 
and, do we want to change that?

all those questions in my head this week
and like Nadine i went through images
in real and on my computer

lately

i make lists and muse about what and how
after all the birds and feathers it's time for something else
a new topic for a series of work
about to be and me 
about water and the sea
about boating and sailing.....

but i also want to make woodcuts of interiors
and perhaps fabric printing for a pillow
a new tea towel with a fly....

na alle vogels en veren is het tijd voor iets anders
een nieuw onderwerp voor een serie van werk

maar ik wil ook graag houtsneden maken van interieurs
en misschien stof bedrukken voor een kussen
een nieuwe theedoek met een vlieg....

it got me thinking about who and what i am and do
i think it's about nesting and nests

there needs to be done a lot:
completing one interior design project, starting-up the next,
designing the decor of the annual musical and
the administration of 2013, that also....

my daily project is stopped
and miss Stuttgart looks at me reproachfully  ;^((
searching for something i find this photo from 1944 of Frida Kahlo
and a new idea bubbles up.... NO! STOP!

zoekend naar iets vind ik deze foto uit 1944 van Frida Kahlo
en een nieuw idee borrelt op.... NEE! STOP!

but am not satisfied
i haven't found my way yet

buiten is het grauw, grijs, kil en nat

elk jaar
nee, dit is niet mijn favoriete tijd van het jaar

ik maak m'n kleine portretten met penseel en inkt
maar ben niet tevreden
ik heb mijn manier nog niet gevonden
maar wanneer ik gedachteloos nat-in-nat werk
verschijnt haar gezicht en moet ik glimlachen

contrast

wit ten opzichte van donkergrijs....
het contrast tussen Venetië en waar ik woon is groot
zonnig, zomers, kleurig, kronkelig, oud en stedelijk tegenover
regenachtig, herfstig, grijs, recht, nieuw en akkerbouw
....
ok, aan het werk!
ik heb een idee voor een nieuwe linosnede

this image of Clint Farha is my all time favorite image
look at their faces!

this 100th drawing challenge with the theme DANCE
makes me look at and through all the images and catalogs
i collected about dance over the years
images of dancers and choreografers
of companies like NDT, Scapino Ballet or Introdans
this theme makes we watch modern ballet pieces on YouTube
pieces of Pina Bausch and Conny Janssen, 
of Hans van Manen (i so LOVE his work), 
Toer van Schaik, Isabelle Beernaert and others
this theme gets under my skin
and i love it!

het was een gevuld en druk weekend
de rust van deze maandagmorgen een weldaad
ik drink koffie en lees de nieuwste Happinez
het thema is stilte, hoe toepasselijk!
en vooral het artikel over Griend
'Alleen op een onbewoond eiland'
spreekt me aan
verlangen....

de zee

gisteren zag ik de zee
woest, grijs en prachtig
we vierden de 90e verjaardag van een vriendin
in een strandtent aan de Noorzeekust
het geluid van de branding
zand aan mijn voeten
het einde van de zomer

yesterday I saw the sea
rough, gray and beautiful
we celebrated the 90th birthday of a friend
in a beach tent on the North Sea coast
the sound of the waves, of the surf
sand at my feet
the end of summer

vragen

tussen de regenbuien door pluk ik bloemen bij de boerderij
thuis, met koffie en onderwijl een dekentje hakend voor Splinter, denk ik na over een webwinkel
zoals waar? bij etsy, bigcartel, da wanda?
en wat? linodruk op papier of toegepast op een kussen, een schort, een tas?....
of knuffels, zoals de vogelportretten?....
vraag: 
wat zouden jullie willen vinden in mijn winkeltje?

P.S.
ja, nog meer huisjes, nu met een klein gaatje voor een kaarsje
maar niet voor mezelf, ik heb al een dorp  ;^)))
