i had plans, as always
but to little time, as always....

after days of hard work with my father
- we have rebuilt our attic -
it was time to paint those new walls
- instead of making a drawing for this art challenge-
in a soft grey like the sky outside
and
besides that
i painted the walls of the room of youngest
in a beautiful skyblue

at the end of the day
the sun broke through
the sky!!

it's exactly two months ago that i posted something
.... sorry! and.... i wonder
is there someone visting me here nowadays?

i have been busy, no, i still am very busy with the job
and i will be even more busy the coming months
next to teaching i have a new additional task: 
thinking about and writing the curriculum for next year

that's why it was so quiet
i miss being here, and i realize that i have not enjoyed it enough
the years that i was working from home and had the time, so much time

but i am not sure if that's what i want
i loved this blog and the blogworld, so....

weinig geslapen....

opnieuw een bezoek gebracht aan Delft
luid gelachen
stilletjes gehuild

het waren drukke maanden
nog een week en dan heb ik vakantie
zo, zo welkom

sorry voor de stilte
maar ik ben nog steeds hier

after cleaning and declutter the fun part starts:
i make new groups of the things that i love
i buy soft pink magnolia branches 
because our 7 year old tree is still 
to small to cut branches from
and at the end of the afternoon
the sun shines right on those magnolias

na het schoonmaken en opruimen begint het leuke gedeelte:
ik maak nieuwe groepen van de dingen waar ik van hou
ik koop zacht roze magnolia takken
omdat onze 7 jaar oude boom nog steeds
te klein is om takken vanaf te snijden
en aan het einde van de middag
schijnt de zon precies op die magnolia's

gisteren was zijn verjaardag, zijn 17e!

was deze foto het eerste dat in me opkwam 
hier is Jongste nog geen jaar oud 
en Oudste voor het eerst zonder luier
beiden in hun ondergoed

this translation reminded me of my idols from the past
like Audrey Hepburn for example in those beautiful black and white movies

but
at the moment i am very impressed by, swoon over
the masterful weaving of spiders

de magistrale weeftechniek van de spinnen

(die zo te zien gewassen moeten worden  ;^))

here are my answers to the 4 questions

what i am working on:
at the moment i am working on several things
i will have my yearly exhibition in october in the finest shop in our village
i am therefor brooding on different ideas, there will be linocut prints of nudes and birds, and some quotes
all in black printing ink on white paper and some gold
and i finally will open an etsyshop this month (oops! so little time left) 
besides that i am making lists of the seeds i want to order for my kitchen garden 
and i am making my own clothes again  ;^))

how my work differs from others in it's genre:
such a difficult one, i don't know.... i just make things i like to make, for me, for myself
little stories about me in a clear line, clean and simple, in black on white (when it comes to linocuts)
in everything i try to stay true to myself, which i find difficult now and then
and 
it still can surprise me that somebody else likes what i make as much as i do

why i create what i do:
i just have to, it makes me happy to work with my hands 
i see myself more as a maker than an artist, i like so many things
which is nice but also a problem, when it comes to focus
since i was little i love to draw, etching and linocuts came at a later stage
i love the smell of the lino and of the printing ink, and i love the sound of my beautiful printing press
since i have that press (a Korrex Stuttgart proofpress from 1967) i can also print texts
using old wooden letterpress letters and hopefully soon also lead type

how my creative process works:
most of the time it starts with writing down a more or less vague idea 
in words with little doodle drawings to support
than the brooding begins
inspiration can come from an image, something someone said, and so many other things
i like the process of writing, drawing and thinking, of inventing, modifying, adapting and sorting out
whether it's a linocut, a painting or an interior project
i think i like this the best, the brooding part
after that (when it comes to linocuts) i draw directly on the lino and adjust, when necessary, while cutting and proof-printing
finally i print just a few, i like my editions to be limited

i like to sew my own clothes
and at the moment preferable dresses
when i showed the first one to Eldest (some months ago)
he asked me while smiling 'is mom wearing a curtain?'
this new dress is lovingly baptized 'the tablecloth' by them
well
i LOVE them both
those dresses   ;^))



ik naai graag mijn eigen kleding
en op het moment bij voorkeur jurken
toen ik de eerste aan Oudste toonde (maanden geleden)
vroeg hij glimlachend 'draagt mam een gordijn?'
deze nieuwe jurk is liefkozend door hen 'het tafelkleed' gedoopt
nou ja
ik HOU van allebei
die jurken  ;^))

we are a water, herbal tea, coffee and freshly made juice drinking family
in our household you find coca cola alongside the plasters and paracetamol in the medication tin
because coca cola (old and without the sparkles!) works great with mild food poisoning or diarrhea  ;^))

wij zijn een water, kruidenthee, koffie en vers gemaakte fruitsap drinkende familie
in ons huishouden vind je coca cola naast de pleisters en paracetamol in het medicijnenblik
omdat coca cola (oud en zonder de prik!) fantastisch werkt bij een lichte voedselvergiftiging of diarree  ;^))
