i'm so happy with it, because
it's about me, about how my life feels at the moment
i am in between, art and mother, i love both
but can it be? can i be me?....

een prachtig kleinood van Stefanie
het boekje 'ist halt so' wat betekent 'het is wat het is'
ik ben er zo blij mee, want
het gaat over mij, over hoe mijn leven voelt op het moment
ik zit er tussen, kunst en moeder, ik hou van beiden
maar kan het zijn? kan ik mezelf zijn?

when we lived in Rotterdam i dreamed of an allotment....
11 years ago we moved to this house, with a garden!
when the children were small part of it was a vegetable garden
i miss that....
so i make plans: removing the grass and
exchange for large containers for vegetables and flowers
my role models in this are: Nigel Slater, Monty Don and Alys Fowler
tomorrow we will measure the garden and will i make pilav with quinces
it promised to be a beautiful day

toen we in Rotterdam woonde droomde ik van een volkstuintje....
11 jaar geleden verhuisden we naar dit huis, met een tuin!
toen de kinderen klein waren was een gedeelte daarvan een groentetuin
ik mis dat....
dus maak ik plannen: het gras eruit en
verruilen voor grote bakken voor groente en bloemen
mijn grote voorbeelden in deze zijn: Nigel Slater, Monty Don en Alys Fowler
morgen gaan we de tuin opmeten en maak ik pilav met kweeperen
het beloofd een mooie dag te worden

as little as possible sugar and gluten
and that seems to help

.... en wanneer ik wegga
voor langer dan een dag
dan vraag ik hen hun namen te schrijven op mijn arm
met een watervaste viltstift....
bedankt voor het deelnemen aan de laatste drawing challenge
en voor de lieve reacties
de hoofdpijnen komen en gaan
ik probeer te letten op wat ik eet
zo min mogelijk suiker en gluten
en dat lijkt te helpen

it took me hours of frustration to make this picture....
i chose the theme TATTOO after reading this sentence
'skin was the first canvas for art'
the maori, my subject, treat the body like a piece of wood
they use a small bone-cutting tool to carve intricate shallow grooves
this art form has been practiced for over a thousand years
it was used as a form of identification, with regards to rank,
genealogy, tribal history, beauty and virility
the lines of a moko accentuate the lines of the face to emphasise the expression
maori woman were traditionally only allowed to be tattooed on
their lips, around the chin and sometimes nostrils
a woman with full blue lips was seen as very beautiful
so that is what i have tried to make
a picture of me as a maori woman with a chin moko
taken around 1890 ;^))
