L A T E L Y

it's exactly two months ago that i posted something
.... sorry! and.... i wonder
is there someone visting me here nowadays?

i have been busy, no, i still am very busy with the job
and i will be even more busy the coming months
next to teaching i have a new additional task:
thinking about and writing the curriculum for next year

that's why it was so quiet
i miss being here, and i realize that i have not enjoyed it enough
the years that i was working from home and had the time, so much time

you can follow me on facebook and instagram
but i am not sure if that's what i want
i loved this blog and the blogworld, so....

ok
back to work!
with this sentence in mind
(do not know from whom or where....)

drawing challenge 189: C O C O O N

It's time for more silence.

COCOON
drawing challenge 189

annually
at the end of the winter
i long for a soft white place
to hibernate
a cocoon
in which i can curl
a safe embrace
waiting for spring
before i get out
converted and
with wings
in the color of the sky

i used a form that i crocheted years ago
and turned it into a cocoon on a branch
the bookprinting/quote and linocut
are works that i made earlier

please visit the blogs to the other participants:

drawing challenge: NEW THEME!

ok, i do not want to keep whining about how busy i am
about the 3 days teaching and read-in, prepare and more
(and don't get me wrong, my job is FUN!!)
i do not want to complain about the household
and the feeling of having no time
no time to make something, to create

how do other people do that? i regularly ask myself

i would like to hibernate
and wake up when spring has arrived
....

involucre
casing
for protection
before i will pupate

hence the theme for dc 189 of Februari 20 - 21: COCOON

how it works:
if you want to join, leave a comment saying you are in
the following weekend the 'drawings' are shown on the blogs of the participants
and the host links to them all

7.2.16

drawing challenge 187: SIXES AND SEVENS

the theme this week is chosen by NADINE-tinyWOOLF
please visit her blog for the link to the other participants

sixes and sevens
in the meaning 'state of confusion or disarray'
is written all over me lately
i looked up some old work
a self-portrait made of several polaroid pictures

sorry
for my absence
and the fact that i hardly drop by
....

AND:
next weekend i will be the host of the 188th drawing challenge
i will post the theme on wednesday the 10th
well... i hope to do that  ;^))
SORRY!
I WILL HOST the 189th drawing challenge
more on that next tuesday

sixes and sevens

23.5.15

drawing challenge 168: FRIDA

FRIDA, with her laces, ribbons, skirts, rustling petticoats and the braids
the moonlike headdresses opening up her face like the wings of a dark butterfly
FRIDA an endearing and, finally, happy figure, in spite of all the suffering
her voice was deep, rebellious, punctuated by belly laughs
words by Carlos Fuentes from the Introduction of the book 'The diary of Frida Kahlo'
third image by Nickolas Muray, 1945, Frida with Chavela Vargas

with this drawing challenge i would like to honour FRIDA
and i wish i was more like her
but i also would like to honour two other woman
first Elisabeth the initiator of this drawing challenge
which started in january 2011 and who is a fan of FRIDA
and secondly sweet Ariane who kept the dc going and loves flowers ;^))

i used a piece of cotton and an embroidery hoop
made some pompons and found a nice picture of a young Frida from 1930
which i used as an example for my felt-tip pen drawing
added braids and flowers and colored them with acryllic paint
and finally added some embroidery

please visit the blogs of the other participants:

drawing challenge 161: spring break

the theme of this weeks drawing challenge 'spring break' is chosen by VERONICA
for the link to the other participants, please go here

for me spring break means spring-clean!
with the windows wide open
i declutter, clean cabinets and wash the curtains
fresh air in the house and in my head
in a box i found these crocheted circles
with the colors of beach, sea and dunes
which will be once a blanket
i can almost smell it
spring is coming!

31.1.15

drawing challenge 156: the unexpected

the theme of this weeks drawing challenge is chosen by JOKE
for the links to the other participants, please visit her blog

the unexpected
of which i am usefully happy
a cheerful excitement
but not this week
this week we had unexpectedly (and all four at the same time!!) the flu
i will spare you the details
we are well again, thank you
and
this downy feather made me happy when i found it
an unexpected small happiness

15.11.14

drawing challenge 151: FOLDS

the theme 'folds' of this weeks drawing challenge is chosen by CAROLE

folds....
thinking of tucking the children when they were small
the folding of the blanket around them
thinking of how Beloved folded his arms around our newborns
or thinking of folding paper into a crane for luck....

but finally i picked up a piece of fabric
and cut, folded, pinned and stitched that into a dress with a fold on my back
i might wear it next thursday when i go to ballet
together with Ritva!!  ;^))

for the links to the other participants, please visit the blog of CAROLE

plooien ....

25.10.14

drawing challenge 148: DRESS

as i said before i like to wear a dress layered
with a jeans underneath and a cardigan over it

i am not really a color or pattern girl
but am a huge fan of minä perhonen
therefore i thought 'how do i look in such a dress?'

i drew a picture of myself in a jeans, dress and cardigan
i then cut the dress and placed the drawing on all sort of images of
the fine book by minä perhonen, named '?'
and then
i exaggerated  ;^))

for more about DRESS, please visit:

Veronica Roth, Ariane, Joanne, Nadine, Stefanie, Eric,
Sabine, Kristen, Katrin, Suzie, Sally, TammieTanïa
and Lucia

wish you all a nice weekend!
x

3.8.14

dress in black & white

i like to sew my own clothes
and at the moment preferable dresses
when i showed the first one to Eldest (some months ago)
he asked me while smiling 'is mom wearing a curtain?'
this new dress is lovingly baptized 'the tablecloth' by them
well
i LOVE them both
those dresses   ;^))

13.7.14

drawing challenge: WHAT'S THAT?

WHAT'S THAT?
reminded me of the time when the kids were little
and
reminded me of this slideshow (thank you dad!)

1965
my brother got a folding rule and explored the world around him
WHAT'S THAT?
that's an earthworm
WHAT'S THAT?
that's a hairstyle from the 60s  ;^))

for more answers on this question please visit CAROLE's blog!

'embroidery' on a printout of the slide

28.6.14

drawing challenge 140: NUDE

thank you for joining this NUDE-dc, dear
Carole, Sally, Barbara, Ariane, Veronica, Susan, Tania, Roberto, Céline, Tammie,
Leena, Eric, Eva, Norma, JoanneNadine and Kristen!

do you remember this 'drawing' i made for the 9th dc, theme 'letters of the alphabet'?
it was my 4th dc and my first nude on this site

i love to use nudes in my work, that was already at artschool and that's still the case
although you will rarely see me in a sauna or even in a swimsuit  ;^))

i do love the sun on my bare skin, especially on my neck and shoulders
and
i like a covered nudity, that there remains room for imagination
that's what i like about the japanese kimono
the collar exposes the neck, which is a major erotic zone for the japanese,
the white face makeup runs to the back but leaves a small portion nude

so, that's what i wanted to paint
my nude neck
with the paintings of Lucian Freud and Michael Borremans in mind
and
that i will
later

8.6.14

drawing challenge: UPSIDE DOWN

there are events that shook my life UPSIDE DOWN
some small, some huge:
a word, a phrase, a work of art, a journey, illness,
death, moving or falling in love

but the greatest upheavel of all
was caused by the birth of my sons

UPSIDE DOWN

searching
for a new but different balance

please visit all the other participants!!:
Ariane, Céline, Nadine, Veronica, Susan, Roberto, Eric (maybe),
Joanne, Barbara, Norma, Leena, Tania, Kristen, Manon, Tammie,
